Ethiopia Athletics: Tekeste Kebede to emulate Tsegaye in Fukuoka
Fukuoka, Japan – 2010 Boston Marathon runner-up Tekeste Kebede will try to emulate his fellow countryman and Fukuoka Marathon double winner Tsegaye Kebede, when he takes part in the 64th edition of the annual race here on Sunday.
Tsegaye Kebede won here in 2008 and 2009 and holds the course record of 2:05.18, which he sets here last year.
Tekeste’s challengers will be 38-year-old Jaouad Gharib of Morocco (2:05:27) and Dmytro Baranovskyy of the Ukraine (2:07:15).
Tekeste Kebede made a breakthrough in 2009 Fukuoka Marathon when he cracked 2:08 barrier for the first time after more than a dozen marathons. Then on his next marathon, 2010 Boston Marathon, he improved his best by another half a minute, thus positioning himself to be another great Ethiopian marathon runner.
