International Volleyball Course in Ethiopia concludes successfully

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia–The recently concluded International Refereeing Candidate Course (IRCC) here in capital was deemed a success by the Federation International de Football (FIVB), the sport governing body.

A total of 18 men and two women participated in the week-long course (April 3-10), which was directed by Hassan Mohammed from Egypt and run by Jacek Spisak from Poland. Furthermore, for the first time the majority of the participants came from Central Africa with 16 taking part from the region. All those who attended passed and are now FIVB approved referees.

The opening and closing ceremonies were attended by a number of distinguished guests including Mr. Yadeta Abdissa, Minister d’Etat of the Ministry of Youth and Sport in Ethiopia and Dr. Tesfay Asgedom, President of Ethiopian Volleyball Federation. It was also reported on local television and in local press.

The FIVB’s main Objecitves in conducting these courses are:

• To train national and international referees.
• To improve and update referees’ knowledge and competence of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball rules, according to the most recent trends of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball
