Ethiopia & Sudan to play friendly to mark 50th Anniversary of OAU/AU
Cairo, Egypt (PANA) – The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that a friendly between Ethiopia and Sudan would be held in Addis Ababa, 25 May as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the OAU/AU.
In a communique after its two-day (15-16 May) meeting in Cairo, Egypt, the committee expressed CAF’s happiness to be involved in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary, being marked at the seat of AU in the Ethiopian capital.
The committee also hailed the Football Associations of Algeria and Morocco for their ”excellent” organisation of the recently held 2013 Under-20 and Under-17 tournaments respectively.
Algeria hosted the Under-20 championship 16-30 March, with Egypt emerging champion, while Morocco hosted  the Under-17 tournament 13-27 April, won by Cote d’Ivoire.
In some of the other decisions taken at the meeting, the Executive Committee confirmed the dates of the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be held from 11 January to 1 February 2014.
The final draw for the competition, reserved for footballers in  the continent’s domestic league, will take place 18 September in the  Egyptian capital..
The Committee also approved the appointments of the new members for CAF Standing Committees for 2013-2015, but said the full lists would be published at a later date.
