Ethiopian Airlines Reshuffles its Senior Management Team

According to sources close to the matter, a group of senior management team members have been reshuffled. Sources said that Kassim Geressu,  a seasoned Ethiopian management team member and Chief Financial Officer, has been replaced by Nega Mekonnen, Vice President for Corporate Finance. Similarly, Elizabeth Getachew, Senior Vice President for Corporate Human Resource Management, also made way for Aziza Mohammad, Human Resource Management Director, while Busera Awel, Chief Executive Officer of ASKY Airlines, the Lome-based private airline which Ethiopian runs on a five-year management contract. Ethiopian also holds a 45 percent stock in ASKY.

Sources also added that scores of mid-level management team members have also been replaced by new ones. The reshuffle is part of the 15-year growth blueprint dubbed Vision 2025 that Ethiopian has been working on in order to transform the airline into an aviation group. The group will comprise of seven ‘profit units’ — ET International, ET Domestic, ET Cargo, ET Catering, ET MRO, ET Aviation Academy and ET Ground Handling. The airline is into the third year of the Vision 2025 development strategy.

Ethiopian CEO Tewolde Gebremariam said that the airline is proceeding well with the strategy, which was labeled as too ambitious to achieve by some. “ But now we are proving that it is achievable,” he countered.

According to Tewolde, the management will introduce the new organizational structure later this month. The structure will have the seven business units, which will be run as separate units as of this month. Under Vision 2025 the Ethiopian Aviation group will generate a revenue of USD 10 billion by 2025.
