Ethiopia Generates over $ 633 million in Tourism Revenue
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – More than 633.7 million US dollars have been obtained from  in the concluded Ethiopian budget year, according o the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Ministry Public and International Relations Directorate Director, Aweke Tenaw, told WIC that the stated sum of revenue was obtained from 629, 050 tourists who visited attraction sites in the country.
He said the number of tourists who visited the country and the income earned from the sector increased by 8 per cent and 37 per cent compared to the previous year.
He attributed the increase in performance to the promotions and the participation made at 11 international trade and exhibitions.
As part of the efforts made to improve service at tourist destinations, 3,866 kms alley roads were renovated in the just concluded budget year. Some 65 tourist camps were also built in the past two years, he added.
As a result of the successive economic growth, durable peace and security prevailed in the country, tourist follow has been increasing from time to time, he indicated.
According to Aweke, this year’s international day of tourism will be marked in Amhara Regional State on September 27, 2013.
