Ethiopian Tourism Enterprise to start operations

Gonder Fasiledes CastleAddis Ababa, Ethiopia - The Ethiopian Tourism Enterprise, the recently established enterprise to improve the development of tourism attractions and promote tourism marketing, will soon commence operations and is in the process of hiring employees.

The Ethiopian Tourism Enterprise was established at the same time as  the Tourism Council and the Tourism Board.

The establishment of these entities came after a series of negotiations and discussions with tourism stakeholders and after the proposal of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MoCT) had been endorsed by the Council of Ministers back in July.

The main aim of the establishment of these three entities is to boost the tourism sector, which is expected to bring in USD 3 billion dollars by the end of the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP).

The Enterprise, which will have its headquarters in Addis Ababa and regional branch offices all over the country, is a profit-making public private partnership and will be responsible for the development of tourist attractions, as well as promoting and marketing these attractions by participating in tourism exhibitions, forums and fairs.

It will be accountable to the Tourism Board, which is chaired by the Minister of Culture and Tourism. The Enterprise will be involved in infrastructure building and will decide on whether to administer it or transfer them to other parties that will efficiently carry out the administration work in line with the demands and requirements of tourist attraction development.

As the country, which has diverse tourist attractions- cultural, historical and archaeological attractions- has started participating in quite a few tourism exhibitions internationally, it has been able to tremendously increase the number of tourist arrivals over the past couple of years alone.

Internationale Tourismus-Borse (ITB) of Berlin, World Travel Market (WTM) of London, Moscow International Tourism Fair and the Shanghai Expo are among the few notable international tourism events in which the country participated.
