Olympic Women Soccer: Ethiopia 1 Ghana 0
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopian national women soccer team “Lucy†has beaten the “Black Queens†of Ghana 1-0 here on Sunday in the Second Round first leg qualifying for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Shitaye Sissay scored the lone goal of the game 14 minutes into the first half, but failed to take advantage to score more goals as the Black Queens played the last ten minutes of the match with just 9 players as Gladys Enti (85) and Safia Rahman (88) were sent off.
The two teams will play the return leg match in Ghana in 2-week time.
Meanwhile, Cameroon was held to a goalless draw by Equatorial Guinea, and South Africa defeated Tunisia 1-0 thanks to a goal by Noko Matlou (47’).
Ethiopia beat DR Congo 3-0 (0-0 & 3-0) and Ghana defeated Guinea 7-1 (2-0 & 5-1) on aggregate scores to reach the second round of the competition.
There are currently 8 teams left competing for the coveted 2 spots to represent Africa at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
