Ethiopian Football: EEPCO shocks Defence Force 4-1
Addis Ababa – Lowly-ranked EEPCO shocked leader Defence Force 4-1 and Mugher Cement gained three valuable points with a 2-1 victory over Lideta Nyala here today, reported Ermias Amare on his FaceBook page.
Addissu Kassa (2), Samuel Samni (Ghana) and defender Robel Girma scored for EEPCO, while Chala Driba got Defence’s lone goal.
EEPCO led 2-1 at half-time.
In the first game of the double-header, Lideta Nyala led 1-0 at half-time thanks to a goal by Tafesse Solomon, but Mugher got two send –half goals from Fitsum Gebre-Mariam and Frew Solomon, a student at Wollega University.
The league will continue tomorrow and all eyes will be in the two matches here in the capital, where Ethiopian Coffee will take on Sidama Coffee and St. George faces Hawassa City.
The loss by the league leader Defence Force will definitely motivate all four teams. For Ethiopian Coffee, a win tomorrow will put them on top, and St. George can tie for second place with Defence Force with a victory of its own.
The southern teams can cut the gap at the top if they could beat Ethiopian Coffee and St. George.
Dedebit FC, which is currently seated in 4th place, can also take advantage of the demise by Defence Force if it could manage to beat Sebeta City in Sebeta.
