CECAFA Kagame Cup: St George vs El Mereikh for 3rd place finish
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – St. George FC of Ethiopia who was eliminated by Simba of Tanzania on penalty kicks here yesterday, will face two time CECAFA Club Championship winners El Mereikh of Sudan for 3rd place finish here tomorrow.
The all-Tanzania CECAFA Kagame Cup final match between Young Africans “Yanga” and Simba will follow after that.
El Mereikh’s coach Hossam El Badry says that the match will be a delight for football lovers.
“After losing to Simba in the semifinals, we want to atone for the loss by beating St. George. They are a good side with many ball players and this will be a great match as both sides possess a lot of individual talent, he told SuperSport.com.”
St.George’s Italian tactician Giussepe Dosena was characteristically holding his cards close to his chest, “every match is difficult since all teams have prepared well but I want to see how we perform against El Mereikh who have big players in the squad.”
Four time African Cup of Nations winner Essam El Hadary will most likely play his last match for El Mereikh and will hope to go out on a high.
Other notable players in the Sudanese side include Nigerian duo of Kelechi Osunwa and Stephen Worgu who was 2009 was the top scorer in the Caf Champions League with 13 goals.
On the other hand, St George boasts of the tournament’s top scorer Salhadin Said who is poised to get the golden boot for the second year running as he currently has six goals to his name.
Ghanaian Prince Godwin, Ugandan internationals Robert Odongkara, Sula Matovu and defender Isaac Isinde as well as Captain Abebaw Butako will give El Mereikh a tough time.
