Mali eye home win over Ethiopia
Head Coach Henry Kasperczak has told his players not to relax when they host Ethiopia in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier on Wednesday.
“After getting an win away in Ethiopia last weekend, we must be hungry and get a second home win in this campaign,” said Kasperczak.
Mali maintained their second place in Group B of the qualifiers last weekend after a 2-0 win in Addis Ababa.
The West Africans will be eager to keep the chase on runaway Group leaders Algeria who have a 100 percent winning record so far. Mali will hope that the duo of Abdoulaye Diaby and Sambou Yatabare, who scored last weekend, continue with their scoring form to take them to nine points.
But the likes of Yussuf Saleh and Getaneh Kabede who have knocked in some goals in the qualifying campaign already will hope that they can turn the guns and get the goals in Mali.
After a third straight defeat, Ethiopia’s Portuguese tactician Mariano Barreto is under immense pressure as he keeps his fingers crossed for a miracle in Mali.
“We are not going to give up, but continue to work hard that we can try and get a result in Mali,” added Barreto.
Algeria who took part in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil top Group B with nine points, while Mali are second with six points and Malawi in third place have three points. Ethiopia are bottom without a single point.
