Aberu Kebede wins Frankfurt Marathon
Frankfurt, Germany –Ethiopia’s Aberu Kebede comfortably took the 2014 Frankfurt Marathon title in 2:21:21, ahead of Kenya’s Sharon Chebet 2:23:44, with another Ethiopian Ashetu Bekere third in 2:24:59.
The men’s race was dominated by the Kenyans, who took the first three spots. The 38-year-old Mark Kiptoo, who won 5,000m bronze at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, crossed the line in 2hr 6min 49sec in an exciting race whose outcome was decided only in the final kilometre.
Ethiopia’s Tebalu Zawude and Deribe Robi were fourth and fifth.
It was the 13th consecutive time a Kenyan won this marathon.
Overall, more than 15,000 runners from 101 countries took part.
