Addis Ababa to get new museum

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Activities are underway to build a modern museum that exhibits the evolution of human in Addis Ababa, the Authority of Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage (ARCCH) said.

Authority External Relations Deputy Head, Fanta Beyene, told WIC recently that the construction of the museum will be commenced at the end of this Ethiopian budget year at a cost of 10 million Euros obtained from the EU.

The ten-storey building will be erected on 4,500 hectares of land granted by the Addis Ababa City Administration in front of the National Museum, Fanta said.

The museum will become a center of excellence for researches on top of boosting foreign tourists inflow in the country, he said.

Ethiopia’s famous 3.5 million year–old fossil, Lucy, which holds key to scientific evidence of human evolution, was discovered in Ethiopia in 1974, it was noted.
