U20 AFCON 2017: Ethiopia defeat Somalia 2-1
Addis Ababa – The Ethiopian U-20 side defeated its Somalian counterpart 2-1 in the first leg match of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Surafel Awel (26′) and Tesfaye Shiberu (79′) scored for Ethiopia, while Isse Ibrahim (77′) responded for Somalia.
The two teams will play the return leg match in Mogadishu on April 22.
There were four other matches played today. Guinea and Botswana collected 3 away points each in Liberia (2-0) and Zimbabawe (1-0) respectively, Algeria defeated Mauritania 2-1 and Kenya held Sudan to a 1-1 draw in Khartoum.
The qualifying rounds started on Friday with Tunisia beating Niger 3-0 at home. On Saturday, Rwanda and Uganda settled for a one-all draw in Kigali. Gambia grabbed a 2-0 win away against Sierra Leone and Mozambique squeezed by Mauritius with a 1-0 victory.
