Ethiopia announces team for 2017 IAAF World Championships

Addis Ababa – The Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) today announced a 40-member team that will represent the country at the 16th edition of the IAAF World Championships scheduled to take place next month in London, UK.

The long-distance runner and current world and Olympic records holder in both 5,000m and 10,000m events, Kenenissa Bekele, rules out himself from the selection due to current form.

“I’m not fit to compete at the event,” he said.

List of Athletes named to represent Ethiopia:

Men

800m: Mohammed Aman and Mamush Lencho

1500m: Aman Wote , Samuel Berhanu  and Teresa Tolosa

3000m steeplechase:  Getnet Wase, Tesfaye Seboka and Tesfaye Diriba

5,000m: Muktar Endris, Solomon Barega, Yomif Kejelcha and Hagos G/Hiwot

10,000m: Abadi Hadis, Jemal Yimer and Anduamlak Belehu

Marathon: Tamirat Tola, Tsegaye Mekonnen and Yemane Tsegaye

Women

800m: Habtam Alemu Kore Tola and Mahlet Mulugeta

1,500m: Genzebe Dibaba, Gudefay Tsegaye, Besu Sado  and Fentu Worku

3000m steeplechase: Sofia Asefa, Etenesh Diro and Bertukan Fente

5,000m: Almaz Ayana, Genzebe Dibaba, Senbere Teferi and Letesenbet Gidey

10,000m: Almaz Ayana,Tirunesh Dibaba and Dira Dadi

Marathon: Berhane Dibaba,  Shure Demise, Aselefech Mergia and  Mare Dibaba

Race walking: Yehuwalaye Belete, Ayalnesh Dejene and Askale Tikesa
