Moroccan Football Legend Abdelmajid Dolmy Dies
Rabat – Moroccan football legend Abdelmajid Dolmy died on Thursday in Casablanca. He was 64 years old.
The cause of his sudden death is still unclear, but according to media reports, Dolmy succumbed to a heart attack.
The news of his death spread quickly on social media with several thousands of Moroccans sharing it on their walls and expressing their sorrow for the death of one of the most cherished football players in the history of Morocco.
Dolmy holds special place in the heart of the Moroccan people for the key role he played in making Morocco one of the greatest football nations in the 1980’s.
He was part of the Moroccan team that participated in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, helping the Moroccan squad qualify to the second round of the tournament. At the time, Morocco became the first African and Arab nation to qualify to the second round of the World Cup.
Dolmy was known and respected for his fair-play, class and good manners. Throughout his career, he was never given a red card.
In 2006, the African Football Confederation selected Dolmy among the best 200 African players of the last 50 years.
