A Silver Medal for Ethiopia in Men’s Marathon
London – Ethiopia won a second silver medal at the IAAF World Championships London 2017 after Tamirat Tola finished in second place in the men’s marathon race
Geoffrey Kirui of Kenya, the 2017 Boston marathon winner, extended his country’s record as the most successful nation in the history of this event at the IAAF Championships.
Tola, the Rio 10,000m bronze medallist and fastest in the field thanks to the 2:04:11 he recorded in winning this year’s Dubai Marathon, required medical treatment after struggling home in 2:09:49, just two seconds ahead of Tanzania’s Alphonce Simbu, who clocked 2:09:41.
Ethiopia have only won this race once – through Gezahegne Abera at Edmonton in 2001.

Thanks for catching the error and I apologize for the mistake. Tamirat Tola finished second and obviously gets a silver medal and not bronze. I’ve made the correction.
Correction. It is the silver medal.
If some one finishes second, the person will be awarded a Silver medal. If someone finishes a race third, the person will be awarded with bronze medal. I guess you didn’t watch the race, Mamo!
CORRECTION!!! Did you mean to say, “SILVER” for Tamirat Tola (and Ethiopia)????
