Great Ethiopian Run launches “Running for a Cause”
Addis Ababa – Great Ethiopian Run in connection with the 2019 TOTAL Great Ethiopian Run launched on Wednesday its official fundraising campaign “Running for a Cause” and the official race slogan “Girls Deserve to be Equally Seen, Heard and Valued” at a Press Conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, which is the official race hotel of the event. It also launches registration for the Plan International Children Races which annual takes place at the eve of the main international event on the Saturday 16 November 2019.
Great Ethiopian Run international 10 km race has been staged for the last 18 years with an aim of developing mass sport in Ethiopia, promoting messages and good causes, nurturing professional expertise in organizing mass races, promoting Ethiopia and sport tourism, creating a platform for young and upcoming athletes.
We are launching these events few weeks after our victory of winning 1st place in the Best International Race category of the Challenge Award presented by Runners World and powered by Let’s Do this. The award aims to recognize the best challenge events, organisation, charities, communities and individuals over the 2018/19 season. We would like to thank everyone who voted for us and showed us the good things we are doing and also encouraging us to go forward better and bigger.
“Running for a Cause” started in 2005 as the official fundraising campaign to raise funds for vulnerable children, women and elderly. In the last 13 years we have raised a total of 13.5 million birr and distributed it to over 30 charity organizations. Last year alone we raise 1.8 million birr we shared to the four beneficiary charities. This year we want to take Haile Gebreselassie lead to build a school Wagemra Zone and we have set a fundraising target of 2 million birr.
The 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon raised a record-breaking £66.4 million for charity, setting a new world record for an annual single-day charity fundraising event for an incredible thirteenth successive year.
We still have a long way to go in creating awareness for people to run for charity on top of the fun and exercise they gain from the race, an added value to their participation.
We still have some charity places and individual participants can use the Amole payment technology to register or use the closest Dashen Bank to register at 600birr. Places are also available for organizations that are willing to make donation for our charity work.
Registration for the Plan International Ethiopia Children races will start on Monday 7 October at Great Ethiopian Run office located on Bole road Alem building 5th floor 501.
